He married Lucy Fitzgerald Best Tarleton in 1879 and the couple lived in Worcestershire.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn 1911, the census shows that Nicholls had turned to painting as a career, probably before this, as his earliest book credits are from 1908.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNicholls exhibited 1885-1937.
