At the suggestion of Van Gogh, he went to Paris to study French painting.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHe exhibited at the Royal Academy 1890-9, NEAC 1896-1904, Grosvenor Gallery and abroad. Livens had his first solo exhibition at the Goupil Gallery in 1911. He was a foundation associate and, from 1907, a member of the International Society.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHe illustrated E. V.
