{"title":"Henton, George","description":"\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eGeorge Moore Henton (1861-1924)\u003c\/strong\u003e was born in Leicester in 1861, the only child of George Henton(1834-1888), a banker's clerk, and his wife Sarah Elizabeth Pank (1829-1913).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGeorge studied at the Leicester School of Art under Wilmot Pilsbury (1840-1908) and in July 1882 won the Queen's Prize for Still Life in oils. He became a professional artist in watercolour, specialising in genre and architectural subjects, and exhibited at the Royal Academy. He also exhibited ten works at the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours and was a member and prime mover in the Leicester Society of Artists.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn 1911, he was a 50-year-old unmarried painter\/artist on private means, living at Victoria Road, Leicester with his 81-year-old widowed mother Sarah.
