His siblings included William (b.1840), George (b.1844) and David (b.1849).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHe began his career as an engraver, as did his brother William. Both the 1891 and 1901 censuses show Alexander as being a marine, landscape and figure painter. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSome time between 1881 and 1891 Alexander married Marion who was 13 years his junior, however he is shown to be a widower by 1901.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe dates for this artist are widely shown on the internet as 1870-1910 but we can find no evidence to corroborate this.
